Including New Jersey, it will be difficult to top, June 9, 2012. At 3 p.m., at MetLife Stadium, Lionel Messi scores three goals as Argentina tops Brazil in a friendly between two of soccers legendary clubs. Across the river, at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, former Olympian Tyson Gay returns to competitive racing at the Adidas Grand Prix, winning his heat in the 100. While just up the Major Deegan, Mark Teixeira blasts a home run as the Yankees beat the Mets, 4-2, at Yankee Stadium in the annual Subway Series.
Meanwhile, over on Long Island, Union Rags wins the Belmont Stakes. And finally, back in New Jersey, at the Prudential Center, Devils goaltender and future Hall-of-Famer Martin Broduer makes 25 saves as the New Jersey beats the Kings, 2-1, in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Here are some of New York's other multi-event days:
The 1980 to 1983 events were originally reported by Newsday's Bob Herzog, with Bill Shannon, of the New York Sports Museum.
