In 2015, Newsday published an award-winning documentary on Brendan Gallagher, a MacArthur High School student with autism and his relationship with his parents, his classmates and the community that embraced him. Brendan became the inspiration for MacArthur's LAX for Autism games. In 2019, the community was shocked when Brendan's father, Joe, passed away due to a heart infection. Newsday remembers Joe Gallagher and his impact on his students and family as the LAX for Autism games returned in 2022 after two years of no games because of the pandemic.  Credit: Newsday/Steve Pfost, Chris Ware
