For 6 1/3 innings, the Mets were as healthy as any team in baseball.

But that's how long it took for the injury gods to again have their way with them. Centerfielder Andres Torres reinjured his left calf muscle while pursuing Tyler Pastornicky's shot to the right-center gap in the seventh inning of the Mets' 1-0 Opening Day victory over the Atlanta Braves Thursday at Citi Field.

"He hit the ball, I just ran and I felt like a pull," said Torres, who took a bad angle in his initial pursuit of the fly ball. "It wasn't bad, but I definitely felt something."

It was clear from the tone of his voice that it was a demoralizing injury for Torres, who had an abbreviated spring training after injuring the calf against the Nationals March 20. The Mets did not say how long he will be out, but he will be put on the 15-day disabled list before Saturday's game. Torres said he will leave for the team's training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Friday morningto begin rehabilitation.

"Andres passed every single test he had to pass to be ready to play," manager Terry Collins said. "I don't think this one is as bad as the one he had in Florida. But still, when you rely on your legs, it's a serious injury."

YesterdayThursday, batting in the leadoff spot that had been Jose Reyes', Torres was 0-for-2 with a walk. He scored the only run of the game on David Wright's sixth-inning single.Said Torres: "I was feeling great. I was feeling really good running and everything. Now I feel bad because of what happened. We won, which is good. But now I just have to keep my head up and try to get better."
