Jason Bay’s sacrifice fly off Marlins closer Leo Nuñez with the bases loaded in the ninth inning Monday didn’t do much, turning a 4-0 deficit into a 4-1 defeat. But Bay, who hadn’t driven in a run since his two-homer, four-RBI night in Los Angeles on July 5, still got accolades from his teammates in the dugout.
“This guy is such a great part of the clubhouse. They want to see him succeed so much,” Terry Collins said. “They’re trying to keep his spirits up. They want him to know that they’re behind him.’’
