Carlos Beltran plans on being in the lineup Tuesday night after missing three straight games with the flu. He was at least feeling well enough to have a bat in his hands in the dugout as Ronny Paulino bounced to short to end Monday night's 4-1 loss to the Marlins.

"Today was a day when I came to the ballpark with a little more energy," Beltran said. "I was able to go in the cage and make myself available to pinch hit. Tomorrow, I should feel a little bit better and my plan is to play."

Terry Collins said Beltran went to a doctor Monday to make sure it's the flu that he's suffering from and then the All-Star came to Citi Field and rested through much of the early innings.

When the Mets mounted their small rally in the ninth inning, Beltran was ready to give it a go at the plate. He'll have a chance to really give it a go Tuesday night.

"I'm going to put him in the lineup, but he also hasn't hit in three days," Collins said. "If he can't go, we'll adjust."

Wright eyes weekend

David Wright went 3-for-6 with three singles and three runs scored for St. Lucie Monday night, his fourth rehab game for the Class A club in Florida. Wright is now 5-for-13 in his rehab games, and played all nine innings at third base Monday night. "I talked to him last night, said he feels great," Collins said.

"He's not as stiff or as sore as he thought he'd be. He thinks each game he's seeing the ball better. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are nine innings. We have nothing etched in stone, but we're looking toward the weekend."

Chacin, Perez signed

LHP Gustavo Chacin and OF Fernando Perez, both players with big-league experience, were signed Monday to minor-league deals. Both joined Triple-A Buffalo. Chacin, 30, has pitched in 102 games (58 starts) with the Blue Jays and Astros and was released from the Astros' Triple-A team in Oklahoma City. He was 3-6 with a 5.13 ERA this season. Perez, 28, played for the Cubs' Triple-A team this season and played with the Rays in 2008 and 2009.
