Beltran, Pelfrey and Mets sign 25 picks (no, not Harvey)
For those still keeping track of such things, Carlos Beltran upped his workload today to five innings in centerfield during an extended spring game, but had no chances. Beltran also had six plate appearances.
And here's more on Mike Pelfrey improving to 9-1 on Sunday. He became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to win nine or more games in his first 10 decisions to start a season. Pelfrey joined Terry Leach (10-0) in 1987, David Cone and Dwight Gooden both 9-1 in 1988 and Al Leiter (9-1) in 2000.
The Mets also signed 25 of their draft picks, most notably fourth-round outfielder Cory Vaughn, the son of former major league All-Star Greg Vaughn. First-round pick Matt Harvey, a Scott Boras client, obviously is going to take a little longer.
