Beltran shows his mettle
It is obvious that Carlos Beltran is not mailing in this final month of the season. Beltran is having a September to remember, enhancing his value to the Mets--or another organization if the Mets really want to unload him. .
On Saturday, Beltran's agressive slide toward Chase Utley answered what many thought was Utley's dirty play against Ruben Tejada the day before. Beltran, surgical knee and all, made Utley hop over him. Guys on the way out of an organization do not feel compelled to be an enforcer.
At the plate, Beltran hit two home runs on Sunday to help the Mets take two of three games from the soon to be NL East champs. Beltran is hitting .329 with five homers and 13 RBIs this month. And his defense looks solid as he has no problem diving for balls.
The Mets will have to determine if this is all eyewash or the rebirth of a super star player.
Too bad the season ends this week.
