Jose Reyes was loudly cheered during pregame introductions in what could turn out to be his final Citi Field opener in a Mets uniform.

It's no secret that Reyes, given his looming free agency and the team's financial issues, could be dealt by the July 31 non-waivers trade deadline. But Reyes simply tried to take it all in during the chilly afternoon, not thinking of the ramifications later this season and beyond.

"I don't know," Reyes said. "The fans still support me and that's good to see. It was unbelievable. There's always going to be a lot of energy here."

Reyes opened the game with an infield single, the fifth straight game he has led off with a hit. But that was the only time he reached base Friday. He also turned in a defensive gem in the fifth inning, diving to his left to scoop a hard-hit grounder and turning what would have been a two-run single into a double play.

Beltran is back

Carlos Beltran seemed comfortable in his return to Citi Field as a rightfielder. He looked even better at the plate, blasting a double to the deepest part of centerfield in the sixth inning. Manager Terry Collins has stressed the importance of having Beltran in the lineup to protect David Wright, but he's forced to balance that with keeping him healthy.

Extra bases

Wright went 1-for-4 with a double and has collected at least one hit in all seven home openers since he first made the Opening Day roster in 2005. He's batting .345 (10-for-29) with five doubles, three homers and seven RBIs in seven home openers . . . Friday's sellout was only the 10th for Citi Field since the stadium opened in 2009.
