Dad played soccer, son kicked around minors
Newest Met catcher Mike Nickeas has a ways to go in catching up to his father’s accomplishments in athletics. Mark Nickeas was a pro soccer player.
Born in England, Nickeas was a defender in the North American Soccer league, the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Western Soccer Alliance. Now retired and living in California, Mark has dabbled in golf.
Mike played college baseball at Georgia Tech. He is 27 and was going to quit to become a coach but now has made it to the Mets as a third string catcher behind Josh Thole and Henry Blanco.
