The Mets received encouraging news on Friday regarding the health of third baseman David Wright, who made progress in his bid to avoid offseason shoulder surgery.

The team announced that an examination this week revealed "marked improvement" in Wright's non-throwing shoulder, which had sustained a rotator cuff contusion that marred most of his season.

Wright will continue with his rehab program in hopes of being ready for baseball activity in December.
