PHOENIX -- Jose Reyes, an All-Star Game spectator for the third time in four selections, nevertheless worked out with his teammates Monday as he rehabilitates his strained left hamstring.
Reyes, who had been named the National League's starting shortstop, took batting practice and said earlier Monday that he planned to ride a stationary bike. He planned to start playing catch Tuesday.
After Tuesday night's All-Star Game, he'll return to New York and meet again with Mets doctors.
"We'll see when I'm going to start running," Reyes said. "You don't want to put too much pressure on it. You see how you're feeling."
Mets manager Terry Collins has said he'd like to have Reyes back by July 22, when the Mets kick off a three-city, nine-game road trip in Miami.
"Hopefully I can get back as soon as possible," Reyes said. "We'll wait and see what happens the next couple of days."
Robertson's rough flight
Yankees setup man David Robertson reported to Yankee Stadium on Sunday with plans to stay in the New York area for the All-Star break. Then he learned during the first inning that he had been named to the American League club as a replacement for Tampa Bay pitcher David Price. It was Robertson's first All-Star selection.
So Robertson packed Sunday night and flew from New York to Phoenix through Chicago Monday in order to attend the player news conferences.
That layover in Chicago proved quite the challenge, however. Torrential rain kept Robertson's flight grounded, and it also soaked his luggage. When he opened his bag upon reaching Phoenix, he discovered that his suits were soaked.
He could have been back in New York with dry clothes. Said a smiling Robertson, "I'd still rather be here."
