Izzy, Pulse and a 'Generation K' revival?

Bill Pulsipher learned about Jason Isringhausen's Mets tryout Tuesday via a text message from a friend, and the surprising development led Pulsipher to envision the unlikely possibility of a Generation K reunion at Citi Field this summer. "You never know," Pulsipher said. "Maybe we'll get a chance to get the band back together."

The former Mets lefthander laughed, making it clear he knows the probability of Isringhausen, Pulsipher and Paul Wilson reuniting in blue-and-orange this season is about as likely as, well, Oliver Perez's chances of starting Opening Day.

But Pulsipher is an admitted dreamer, someone who said he'd still like to wear a Mets uniform someday, and he was happy to hear of Isringhausen's chance to return to his roots. "It's cool, man," he said. "Good for him. I'm sure he's excited about it because it's always nice to come home at the end, you know."

It was 15 years ago when the trio dubbed "Generation K" captured the excitement of Mets fans; they were three can't-miss prospects who were supposed to be the rocks of their rotation for many years to come.

But injuries to all three pitchers got in the way of their future together with the Mets, and soon they had all gone their separate ways.

In an interview Tuesday with Newsday, Pulsipher said it's been a few years since he's spoken to either Isringhausen or Wilson. If Isringhausen performed well enough in his tryout to receive an invite to Mets spring training, then Pulsipher thinks there's a good chance to meet up. Pulsipher has a home in the Port St. Lucie area.

"Anywhere I go, when somebody starts talking about my career, it obviously always goes back to me, Izzy and Wilson," Pulsipher said. "I would like to be able to say things turned out differently. We couldn't help the injuries and all that. But it's still something I'll take with me for the rest of my life."
