Expect all that Jerry Manuel replacement talk to make a strong comeback as the Mets sink deeper in the standings.

The Mets are 61/2 games behind Atlanta in the National League East and 31/2 out of the  Wild Card as they begin the final leg of their road trip. Four games remain against the Dodgers, starting tonight in Los Angeles. The Mets lost three of four in San Francisco and were swept by Arizona. The 1-6 trip, combined with losing 16 of their last 24, threatens to place Manuel's status on the front burner.

Hitting coach Howard Johnson could be a target as the team batting continues to languish.
