Juan Samuel's connection to Mets
Remember when Juan Samuel, named today as interim manger of the Orioles, was with the Mets? It was midseason in 1989 and Phillies had their fill of Samuel, a longtime second baseman who wasn't cutting it as as outfielder. The Mets traded Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell for the former NL All-Star.
Samuel hit .228 and was shipped to the Dodgers, where he became an All-Star in 1991.
Fun fact: Samuel named his son Samuel, so he is Samuel Samuel.
Samuel manged the Binghamton Mets for a season befroe joing the Baltimore coaching staff.
