Judge: Jeff Wilpon can be deposed for longer than usual in discrimination case

A potential trial in the discrimination lawsuit former Mets ticket executive Leigh Castergine filed against Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon will not take place until at least the spring of 2016.
That's what was decided Friday as attorneys for both Castergine and Wilpon met for the first time in Brooklyn federal court. Wilpon is accused of discriminating against and firing Castergine, a former team senior executive, for having a baby out of wedlock.
Castergine attorney Anne Vladeck received permission from U.S. District judge William Kuntz to depose Wilpon and other executives for a longer-than-usual 14 hours over the span of two days. Vladeck declined to say after the hearing whether there have been any settlement talks.
Attorneys for Wilpon and the Mets declined to comment.
The next status conference is Jan. 23.
