If the rain doesn't let up, the Mets might have to jam four games into two days with the Brewers. That means pitching will be at a premium and the last man in the bullpen might get a call. That would be Oliver Perez.

Perez is 0-4 with a 6.65 earned run average in 16 games. He has started seven games. Beyond the Milwaukee series, there seems to be an opening for a spot starter on Saturday. Manager Jerry Manuel has said he doesn't expect to start Perez, but that could be subject to change.

Check out this fantasy: Let's say Perez starts and somehow pitches well. Wouldn't it be strangely fitting if he threw the Mets' first no-hitter?

In reality,  the downside of any good performance might fool the Mets into keeping him for next season. That decision might have already been made with his $12 million salary making him untradeable.
