Former first-round draft pick Brandon Nimmo headed a group of four players added by the Mets to the 40-man roster Friday, which protects them from being chosen in next month's Rule 5 draft.

Joining Nimmo were righthanders Seth Lugo, Jeff Walters and Robert Gsellman.

Nimmo, 22, hit .269 with five homers in the minors last season. The No. 13 overall selection in the 2011 draft ended the year with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lugo, 26, went 8-7 with a 3.84 ERA in 24 starts between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas.

Walters, 28, posted a 2.45 ERA across three levels, the highest of which was Double-A Binghamton. He missed all of 2014 recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Gsellman, 22, went 13-7 with a 2.89 ERA between Class A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton.

The Rule 5 draft will be held Dec. 10 at the winter meetings in Nashville.
