The Yankees made a triple play today in Oakland. That is something the Mets have been victims of nine times. The Mets played a part in a famous triple play in the movies.

In the 1968 comedy ``The Odd Couple,’’ set in Shea Stadium, sloppy sports writer (ouch!) Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau) misses the triple play when neat freak Felix Ungar (Jack Lemmon) phoned him in the Shea pressbox just as the play was unfolding.

Here's a true back story: A cameo appearance in the film was made by real life writer Jack Lang, who liked everyone to believe he spent his career missing big plays. Lang jokingly claimed the film as one of his credits. He didn't get an Oscar for his role, but he did make the Hall of Fame for his 50 years writing baseball.
