The Mets were the talk of the town this season, but also they managed to garner attention on a larger scale.
In Google’s list of top 10 trending sports teams in the United States in 2015, the Mets came in at No. 1 after reaching the World Series for the first time since 2000.
Baseball teams took the top three spots with the Toronto Blue Jays coming in second and the Chicago Cubs in third. The Houston Astros were the last MLB team on the list, coming in seventh. All four baseball teams included in Google’s top 10 list advanced to the postseason in 2015.
The reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors, who started this season with a historic 24-0 record, came in fourth. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who lost to the Warriors in the 2015 NBA Finals, finished sixth, and the Atlanta Hawks finished in eighth.
The NCAA took the final two spots, with Michigan State football finishing ninth, and Duke men’s basketball finishing 10th. MSU will play in the second College Football Playoff after finishing third in the CFP rankings with a 12-1 record. Duke, led by Jahlil Okafor, won the NCAA Tournament in 2015.
