Mets bullpen catcher arrested

Eric Langill, 33, a Mets bullpen catcher, was arrested late Sunday night by the St. Lucie County sheriff’s office. He was charged with driving under the influence and property damage, was held overnight in the county jail and was released yesterday morning on $1,500 bond, according to police.
“We’ll be talking to Eric and trying to gather as many facts as we possibly can before we decide on any disposition,” Alderson said. “Obviously, we’re very disappointed that this happened.”
According to the report issued by the sheriff’s office, Langill’s car drove onto a curb, struck a street sign and flipped over less than a mile from Digital Domain Park. Langill, who suffered minor injuries, told the arresting officer that he was coming from Duffy’s, a sports bar/bowling alley where the Mets held a team bowling competition Sunday night.
“Yeah, it does raise some concern,” Alderson said. “However, I was at bowling night. I was there when it substantially concluded at approximately 8:45. This incident occurred at [11:25].
“We want to make sure that, to the degree that we’re having an official event, players and staff and others participating handle themselves responsibly. And that’s one of the concerns that we will address.”
