Mets call up Home Run Hessman
The Mets are taking a look at career minor league infielder Mike Hessman, who has hit 329 home runs (and a .231 batting average) in 15 minor league seasons. The 32-year-old Hessman hit 13 major league home runs in 77 games with Atlanta and Detroit. Hessman, the minor league's active all-time leader in homers, hit a career high 34 in 2008 at Toledo. He hit 18 at Buffalo this season.
His time in the majors may prevent him from becoming the all-time HR king in the minors. That title belongs to Hector Espino, who hit 484, mostly in the Mexican league.
