PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The area surrounding Citi Field is undergoing significant construction with the development of a sports and entertainment district.
The construction will impact how fans can get to Mets home games this spring, and parking will be more limited than years past.
On Monday, 10 days until Opening Day against the Pirates at Citi Field, the Mets revealed updated and expanded transportation options to get to the ballpark. They include prepaid parking, discounted parking, Long Island Rail Road promotion codes, shuttles and more.
“The fan experience is our top priority,” said Katie Haas, the Mets’ executive vice president of ballpark operations, in a statement. “As the area around Citi Field undergoes changes, we’re excited to offer fans more ways than ever to get to the ballpark. These new options provide greater flexibility today, and we’re equally excited about the long-term vision for the area and what it will mean for the fan experience in the years ahead.”
New this season, the Mets are offering fans the opportunity to prepay for parking through a link on the Mets’ website for $40. Drivers who do not prepay will be charged $50, cash not accepted, upon arrival. Prepaid passes must be purchased before midnight on the date of the game, and a maximum of two passes can be purchased per account. The Mets noted prepaid parking is “the best way for fans to guarantee a spot at Citi Field.”
Discounted parking is available close to Citi Field, with fans being able to save over 50% on spots at the garage at Skyview Mall (a 10-minute walk from the ballpark), the surface lot or garage at Flushing Commons (a one-stop subway ride) or the underground garage at Flushing Plaza (a walk or one-stop subway ride).
For fans looking to take the train to the game, the Mets are collaborating with the LIRR to give fans $5 off their adult day pass tickets. The promotion codes for the $5 discount are available on the Mets website. Up to four children aged 5-17 can ride for $1 each when with an adult.
The Mets also are offering shuttles, which are coach buses, from designated off-site parking areas, including two spots on Long Island: the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City and Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station. Shuttle bus tickets are available in advance for $8 per person or $22 for a family four-pack. Two shuttles from each location will make the trip between the location and Citi Field. The other shuttle parking areas are Paramus Park in Paramus, New Jersey, Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, New Jersey, and The Mall at Bay Plaza in the Bronx. Buses are scheduled to arrive at Citi Field when gates open and leave 30 minutes after the final out.
Like last season, the Mets will have a designated rideshare area a block from Citi Field’s leftfield gate. The Mets also are adding additional personal bike racks and e-scooter sharing opportunities around the stadium.
Ferry options will be available from Highlands, New Jersey, to most regular-season games, with occasional stops at Staten Island and East Midtown Manhattan. For select weekend games, a route will operate from Stamford, Connecticut. The boats arrive at the Mets’ temporary dock at the World’s Fair Marina, a 10-minute walk from Citi Field.
