Off the diamond, David Wright is no longer a free agent.
The Mets star is engaged to model Molly Beers, a source confirmed Sunday, the latest development in what has been a life-altering offseason for the All-Star third baseman, Newsday reports.
Beers accompanied Wright to Nashville for baseball's winter meetings in December, when the Mets officially announced the signing of his new eight-year, $138-million contract. Apparently, the 30-year-old Wright then promptly agreed to another long-term commitment, proposing to Beers, his longtime girlfriend.
The couple became engaged over the holidays, according to ESPNNewYork.com, though no wedding date has been set.
Wright and Beers have been dating for several years, a relationship that went public when Wright threw Beers a surprise birthday party over the 2008 All-Star break.
Since making his major-league debut with the Mets in 2004, Wright has been a fan favorite. "Future Mrs. David Wright" shirts have been popular among the female fan base.
