It wasn't on the level of a Cliff Lee or Roy Oswalt, but Omar Minaya's quest for pitching depth on a much smaller scale continued this week with the signing of righthander Ramon Ortiz, who made his debut for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. Ortiz, 37, allowed seven hits and two runs in four innings in the Bisons' 5-4 win over Gwinnett.

Ortiz was unremarkable for the Dodgers this season, with a 1-2 record and 6.30 ERA in 16 games, including two starts, before he was designated for assignment. What Ortiz does have is experience - he's got an 85-82 record with a 4.93 ERA in 10 seasons - so maybe Minaya will find something, as he did with R.A. Dickey during the winter.
