Mets' Hall of Fame should be ready by Opening Day

The Mets' long-anticipated plans for a Hall of Fame and museum are finally coming to fruition at Citi Field with the expectation that it should be ready for Opening Day on April 5.

There was visible evidence of construction Wednesday as the windows of what used to be the team store have been boarded up. Dave Howard, the Mets' executive vice president of business operations, said the Hall of Fame will take the space previously occupied by the store and be adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda.

As for the museum itself, the Mets intend to have plenty of interactive exhibits in addition to the usual artifacts and memorabilia from the team's history. They also anticipate having items on loan from the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, suggesting there may be rotating exhibits alongside more permanent fixtures.

The museum also will have a separate entrance, so a ticket to that day's game will not be required for admittance. The team will reveal more specifics of the museum as Opening Day draws closer.
