PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Attention, Mets fans: Your team's Hall of Fame is ready. Even if it is a year late.
The Mets announced Wednesday that their team Hall of Fame and Museum will be ready for Monday's season opener at Citi Field. Fans with tickets to the 1:10 p.m. game against the Marlins will have access to the museum when gates open at 10:40 a.m.
Mets fans were disappointed last season when Citi Field opened without the team paying enough homage to the franchise's past. The organization has taken steps to rectify that during the offseason.
The Mets museum will feature "significant artifacts, interactive exhibits, videos and photographic imagery recognizing the unforgettable plays and players that have defined the Mets' 48-year history," according to the club.
The Mets Hall of Fame has 21 members, but none has been added since 2002. Four men will be added this season and honored on Aug. 1. They are former general manager Frank Cashen, former manager Davey Johnson and former players Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden.
