The Mets visited with the agents for shortstop Cesar Izturis and righthander Freddy Garcia, according to a source, though no moves appeared imminent on the second day of baseball's winter meetings.

The Mets have also seen little movement on the trade front, where second baseman Daniel Murphy may be moved along with either Ike Davis or Lucas Duda.

While the Mets are believed to be more aggressive in dealing Davis than they have been with Murphy, the market is crowded with first basemen, with the likes of the Marlins' Logan Morrison also reportedly on the block.

The Mets still have multiple needs to fill. They seek a backup infielder and a starting pitcher willing to take a one-year deal, hence their meetings with representatives for Izturis and Garcia.

Garcia, 37, went 4-7 with a 4.37 ERA for the Orioles and Braves. The righthander began the year in the minors and ended it by finishing strong for the Braves, who slotted him into their postseason rotation.

Izturis, 33, hit .209 in a backup role for the Reds last season.

Closing time

Bobby Parnell (neck surgery) will undergo a follow-up exam next week. The Mets' closer has yet to resume baseball activities.

With Parnell's status for spring training in question, the Mets have looked into signing a reliever capable of handling late-inning situations.

Back in the fold

Righthander Jeremy Hefner agreed to the terms of a minor-league deal, a source confirmed. Hefner rejoins the organization after he was non-tendered last week. The righthander is recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Extra bases

Terry Collins believes Zack Wheeler will be in line to exceed 200 innings. The 23-year-old logged 1682/3 innings last year . . . Matt Harvey is doing minor exercises early in his rehab from Tommy John surgery . . . Collins said he's encouraged by reports that Ruben Tejada has benefited from attending a four-week workout camp in Michigan.
