Collins said he thought it would be a "no-brainer" that Tejada would get the bunt down.

"I'm a little surprised, 'cause he's such a fundamentally sound player," Collins said. "When I first came to this organization that was the first thing they talked about, Reuben Tejada and his approach to the game and how he was beyond his years as far as his mental approach. But he's had a rough start."

The Braves added an insurance run with one out when B.J. Upton hit a nubber in front of the plate. Lyon ran off the mound, scooped the ball and tossed it to the catcher Buck. But pinch-runner Jordan Schafer slid in safe ahead of the tag.

Collins said it was difficult for Lyon to prepare to come in in what was essentially the second inning.

"He pounds the strike zone," Collins said. "But you get balls in the middle of the plate to those guys? They're going to hit you."

Play resumed with the top of the ninth and closer Bobby Parnell on the mound at 6:10 p.m. after a 1:15 official rain delay that actually stretched across the better part of a day.

Anthony Varvaro, who pitched the eighth inning Friday and surrendered the tying hit to Daniel Murphy, pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth. Lucas Duda hit a long fly ball to left with one out that Justin Upton struggled to position himself for. But the left fielder eventually settled under the ball and Marlon Byrd struck out for the fourth time to end the inning.
