Mets morning links
Jeff Wilpon shows up in Atlanta, holds a closed-door meeting with Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel... And the Mets coolly go out and save jobs with a one-run win. Pretty simple, right?
-- Dave Lennon has the details on a huge start from Mike Pelfrey in the 3-2 win over the Braves. Pelf's 7 2/3 innings meant a Mets starter won for the first time... in May. Sheesh. May's more than half over.
-- And about that trip from the boss... Lennon tells us that Wilpon swears he did not come to Atlanta to fire anyone, which really begs some sort of Gone With The Wind reference; anyway, Manuel and his staff were still intact last night.
Knowing the way the Mets do things, it's doubtful Manuel would have been swept out of office right away, but hitting coach Howard Johnson and pitching coach Dan Warthen could have been sweating while Wilpon, Minaya, assistant GM John Ricco and Manuel sat behind closed doors.
We'll have more later on what's in store for the Mets brass, with Wilpon promising to stick around another day.
