The Mets on Sunday played shortstop Ronny Mauricio on the injured list with a fractured left thumb, further testing their depth at the position in the aftermath of the calf injury expected to sideline Francisco Lindor until at least late May.

Mauricio injured the thumb during the seventh inning of Saturday's 4-3 loss, when he dove into first base after hitting a chopper to Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel, who successfully raced Mauricio to the bag.

"It's tough, obviously," manager Carlos Mendoza said. "You lose your everyday shortstop and the guy that comes up that is getting the everyday opportunity here now is hurt."

The injury came a night after Mauricio, who is batting .219, hit the go-ahead homer in the seventh inning of Friday's 4-3 Mets win.

Mauricio's injury follows recent IL trips for Lindor, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr. and Kodai Senga.

The Mets called up infielder VIdal Brujan from Triple-A Syracuse.

Bo Bichette started as shortstop for the Mets in Sunday's series finale.
