The Mets, concerned about their catching depth, on Thursdaysigned veteran Rob Johnson to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Johnson, 28, spent 2011 with the San Diego Padres, batting .190 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 67 games.
He will compete with Mike Nickeas to back up Josh Thole. The Mets non-tendered Ronny Paulino earlier this month.
Johnson also has appeared in the majors with Seattle. He is a career .197 hitter.

He was drafted 10 years ago. Now this LIer finally is in the big leagues. With the Mets.
