Jacob deGrom keeps finding ways to make history.

Earlier this month, the 26-year-old righthander became the fifth Met in history to be named the National League Rookie of the Year.

On May 2, he'll be the first Met to have his own gnome day.

The team will give away deGrom garden gnomes to the first 15,000 fans who show up at Citi Field for the 7:10 p.m. game against the Nationals. The date was announced when tickets went on sale Friday morning.

"It has been a crazy year,'' deGrom said in a statement released by the team. "Getting married, [becoming] Rookie of the Year and now I am a gnome. Who would have thought?''

DeGrom was chosen for a few reasons. Yes, his hair was one of them.

"He was the Rookie of the Year, has a great personality, it's a play on his name and he has that great hair working for him,'' a Mets spokesman said. "We thought it was an item our fans would love.''
