Mets want three for the road

Starting Tuesday, the Mets can make up for losing twice in three games to the Padres on the recent West Coast trip. 

The scheduled starters--and eight game winning streak at home---would seem to favor the Mets as they close out the homestand with three games against the  Padres.  

For the most part, the starting pitching has been so good that when you say their best pitcher is on the mound, it might be someone different each time.

Without question, it has to be Mike Pelfrey (8-1, 2.39) who will start tomorrow. Part of being No. 1 is putting it all together and not having hard luck, which is why Johan Santana (4-2, 2.76) has to be No. 2 at the moment. He goes Wednesday.

Pelfrey threw eight innings of one-hit ball against the Padres in the Mets lone victory. Santana came back the next day with seven scoreless innings, raising his streak to 15 straight innings without a run, and left with a 1-0 lead. The Mets would lose that game.

On Thursday, R.A. Dickey (3-0, 3.20), who has had nothing but good fortune, tries top keep it going. He has lasted at least six innings in each of his four starts.

Then, the Mets go to Baltimore to play the worst team baseball. If they can't improve on their road record there, forget it.
