PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Billy Bean, baseball’s ambassador for inclusion, praised the Mets on Friday for hosting an LGBT-themed Pride Night this season.
He also said he kept in touch with former Met Daniel Murphy, who triggered controversy last year for his stance on gays. “It moved the conversation in front of people,” said Bean, who visited in Mets camp for the second straight year.
Extra bases
Dilson Herrera hit a game-tying inside-the-park homer in the ninth inning of Friday’s tie with Miami . . . Lefty specialist Jerry Blevins allowed an unearned run in one inning, his first game action since last April.
“It was great,” said Blevins, who was sidelined with two arm injuries last season. “I’m in one piece. That’s a win.”
