Daniel Murphy again got the starting nod at third, his first time at the position since committing the fielding blunder that led to the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Pirates on Saturday. Despite that gaffe, Collins said he isn’t worried about Murphy playing the position.
“We know he can play third base — he’s shown us,” Collins said. “I’m sorry, but he’s not going to be the first or the last guy to ever misplay a ball.’’
The Mets still are awaiting a ruling from MLB on their appeal of Saturday’s scoring decision, which the team wants changed to an error to spare R.A. Dickey a pair of earned runs.
