Hisanori Takahashi is pitching for his spot in the rotation!  Are you as tired reading that as we are writing it? Well, it remains a possibility.

Takahashi (5-2, 3.48) starts tonight against the Yankees.  He had  great outing in the Subway Series at Citi Field, pitching scoreless ball for six innings in what turned out to be a 2-1 loss to Javier Vazquez (6-5, 5.43), who goes again this evening.

Regardless of Takahashi's performance, his days as a starter appeared numbered. John (``There's nothing wrong with my arm'') Maine is supposedly on the mend and even if he remains iffy after another rehab start or two (our David Lennon has reported his velocity as underwhelming in the minors), the trading deadline could bring a starting pitcher that would send Takhashi to the bullpen. Pedro Martinez, Ben Sheets and Kevin Millwood are among those rumored.

On the other hand, most rumors remain just that, so it's one big guess.
