As the Mets prepare to welcome back Jason Bay off the disabled list, they could very well end up placing Bobby Parnell on it. The righthanded reliever said after Tuesday night's loss to the Astros that he's been pitching with possible numbness in his middle finger for the past week and a half.

Parnell, who balked in a run in one third of an inning of work, said he's been fighting through the numbness and discomfort, but "being out there at 70, 80 percent is not cutting it." "Just having a hard time gripping the baseball, feeling it," he said. "I don't think it's anything serious, I don't think it's anything long term."

Parnell said an MRI has not been scheduled as of now and added that the team doctors have ruled out carpal tunnel. The Mets could activate Bay Wednesday and place Parnell on the disabled list to make room.

Turner recalled

Justin Turner is no stranger to big-league call-ups, but the butterflies and nervous anticipation nevertheless surfaced when he learned he was Flushing-bound Tuesday morning. The 26-year-old infielder, who was hitting .300 (12-for-40) for Triple-A Buffalo, was recalled after the Mets designated second baseman Brad Emaus (.162 BA) for assignment.

Turner, who is expected to share second in a platoon with Daniel Murphy, went 1-for-4 with a throwing error.
