Piniella to retire, Torre next?

The Mets wanted Lou Piniella to be their manager years ago, but that never  worked out and now Piniella, 66,  says he is retiring after this season with the Cubs. It should be noted that he appeared to leave the door ajar when he said he wasn't sure what might come next.

In Los Angeles, Joe Torre, 70, was asked about Piniella's decision and how it might impact his own thoughts on leaving the game. Torre's name already has surfaced as a replacement for Piniella.  

"I'm not sure how much I want to work after this year, and that's what I have to figure out for myself with the help of my family," Torre told the  Associated Press.  "My family only really wants what I want because they don't want to have to hang around me if I'm miserable....If  we keep losing, it may not be my choice."
