R.A. Dickey has successful surgery

Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey successfully underwent surgery Thursday morning to repair a core muscle injury that he pitched with for most of his breakout season. The knuckleballer is expected to be ready for spring training.
Dr. William Meyers performed the procedure at Jefferson Surgery Center in Philadelphia. Dickey, 37, became just the sixth Mets pitcher to win 20 games while making himself a leading candidate for the Cy Young Award.
He also led the National League in strikeouts (230), innings (232 2/3), complete games (five) and shutouts (three) -- all while pitching through the abdominal injury suffered early in the season.
