PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- R.A. Dickey, who is penciled in as the Mets' No. 2 starter, pitched two scoreless innings in yesterday's intrasquad game. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out three. While the knuckler had its moments, Dickey conceded that it's still early and that there's plenty to iron out before the regular season begins.

"On a scale of one to 10, I was probably a six," Dickey said.

"I had a lot of good movement, so that was nice to see. But I felt a little rusty. It was the time I kind of took a picture without the batting cage behind there, so it wasn't as much of a controlled environment. It's nice to be able to knock the kinks out in a situation like that."

Extra bases

Johan Santana completed yesterday's bullpen session without any issues and remains on schedule for his March 6 start against the Cardinals . . . Andres Torres, the Mets' new leadoff hitter, drew a walk in his first at-bat but was picked off first . . . Lucas Duda and Jason Bay each went 2-for-2 with a double . . . Chris Schwinden, the No. 6 starter on the depth chart, allowed three hits and one run in two innings. He struck out three . . . Mike Baxter saw some time at first base, and manager Terry Collins said Adam Loewen also will get a look there as the Mets try to add flexibility to their bench.
