Reports: Mets close to signing RHP Young
The Mets could be on the verge of signing free-agent righthander Chris Young, according to several reports.
Young, 31, missed most of last season with San Diego due to a strained right shoulder. The Padres declined Young's $8.5 million option for 2011.
Young was in the last year of a four-year contract for $14.5 million.
In seven seasons with the Rangers and Padres, Young had a 48-34 record and 3.80 ERA.
Young has ties to Sandy Alderson and Paul DePodesta from their tenure with the Padres.
