Sandy Alderson might make move at trade deadline if Mets are in playoff hunt

Sandy Alderson told season-ticket holders in a Q&A before Saturday's game at Citi Field that if the Mets are competing for a spot in the playoffs, a move could be made at the trade deadline.
"I really do believe that we are close," Alderson said. "So let's focus on what we have between now and the trade deadline and see where we are . . .
"We're two months into the season, and like I said, I think we're close and I think we have the capacity to play better.
"Are we going to increase the payroll next year? I think that's something we're going to have to deal with after the season."
Granderson update
Curtis Granderson, who has not started since Wednesday because of a sore left calf, popped out for Dana Eveland in the seventh inning.
Granderson, who got off to a dreadful start before producing a .361/.444/.583 slash line so far in June, said he was encouraged by a long pregame workout in which he performed speed and agility drills in the outfield. He was unsure if he would start Sunday.
"It's a lot closer than I anticipated from day one, which is a good thing," Granderson said. "Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later. We did a lot of stuff to make sure everything's good and each [run], as I kept going out, got better and better, which is a good sign."
Mejia update
Jenrry Mejia (stiff back) did not pitch Saturday, but he said he was healthy if needed. Mejia has not pitched since leaving Thursday's game.
"Everything is good," Mejia said. "I wanted to take an extra day. I want to be 100 percent to be in the game."
