As is typical of post-op news releases, the Mets announced minutes ago that Johan Santana's surgery was indeed successful. What has to be considered good news, however, is that no other damage was discovered inside the shoulder. Here's the team's statement:

 

Mets pitcher Johan Santana underwent successful surgery this morning to repair the tear of his anterior capsule of the left shoulder.  The surgery was performed by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
