Scott Boras on board with limiting Matt Harvey's innings

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson and superagent Scott Boras have engaged in a public war of words about the team's spending practices. But that hasn't gotten in the way of a common interest in the well-being of ace Matt Harvey.
Speaking at the winter meetings on Wednesday, Boras said he and Alderson have been in communication about options to limit Harvey's innings as he returns from Tommy John surgery.
The choices range from occasionally skipping Harvey's turn in the rotation to holding him out for two straight starts as part of a midseason hiatus.
"Sandy and I have had discussions along with the doctors about a format for him and what they're going to do and how far he's going to go during the season," Boras said. "And we're all comfortable with that."
That's not to say Boras has halted his offensive, once again likening the Mets to bargain shoppers in a grocery store's fruits-and-nuts aisle.
"We have a great time with it, we really do," said Boras, who has hosted meetings with Alderson in his suite. "I said, 'I'm not going to have any meat in the room, but I'm going to have lots of fruits and nuts for him.' "
The latest barb came in response to Alderson, who fired back at last month's general managers' meetings.
"Boras has been shopping near the meat section," Alderson said at the time. "That's where he gets his [expletive]." With David Lennon
