Some initial thoughts on R.A. Dickey
Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey was impressive last night in combining with Raul Valdes for an 8-0 shut out against the Phillies.
Dickey tossed six shutout innings, allowing seven hits and matching a career-high with seven strikeouts, before he was removed due to tightening in his non-pitching elbow.
As heard on a recent Mets broadcast, R.A. is only the fifth Mets player to use two initials instead of his first name. Here's a list of the Mets lettermen plus what the initials stand for.
