St. John's Lavin to throw out first pitch
New St. John's basketball coach Steve Lavin will throw out the first pitch next Monday before the Mets host the Dodgers. Lavin grew up a San Francisco Giants fan and was an usher at Candlestick Park. But he coached at UCLA and was drawn to the Dodgers.
Lavin's appearance continues the Mets' relationship with the university. Alumnus John Franco, of course, pitched for the Mets. The Red Storm's baseball team opened Citi Field with a game against Georgetown in March, 2009.
