David Wright is "really on the upswing," manager Terry Collins said Sunday after his latest conversation with the Mets' captain.

"He's doing some things that are related to baseball activities," Collins said. "So he's got a doctor's appointment on Monday and he's hoping he can start some other more aggressive things on the field here pretty soon."

Wright has been sidelined since April with a back condition that has been diagnosed as spinal stenosis. But Collins could not elaborate on the nature of Wright's activities.

Even if he's cleared by doctors Monday, Wright will need at least three weeks to get into baseball shape.

Mejia returns

Jenrry Mejia admitted that he felt some nerves in his first appearance since returning from his 80-game PED suspension.

Still, the former closer retired the only batter he faced in his long-awaited return to the Mets.

"It's tough but I understand because I was out two, two and a half months," said Mejia, who had waited since Tuesday for his first action.

Starting off

Noah Syndergaard will start Friday in St. Louis, the Mets' first game out of the All-Star break. He will be followed by Jonathon Niese and Bartolo Colon, though not necessarily in that order.

The alignment allows the Mets to save Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey for a three-game set against the Nationals starting next Monday.

Extra bases

Juan Lagares left before the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks with cramps in his right calf . . . Buddy Carlyle likely will miss the rest of the season, according to sources, after surgery to repair the labrum in his hip. Carlyle has been out since early May . . . Travis d'Arnaud (left elbow sprain) remains in a brace . . . Michael Cuddyer (left knee) did not play Sunday. "It's definitely going to help," Cuddyer said.
