Scouting report

Compared to Mike Pelfrey, the Mets' No. 9 pick out of Wichita State in 2005, Harvey is a strong, durable righthander with a heavy 96-mph fastball to go with a slider, curve and changeup. Harvey was 8-3 with a 3.09 ERA in 14 games this season for UNC, which was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. This season, he struck out 102 with 35 walks in 96 innings. The highlight was a 15-strikeout, 157-pitc, complete-game victory over Clemson. Perhaps the biggest criticism of Harvey is spotty control, and one scout said that he regressed in college until this season. In 2007, Harvey was considered the No. 1 high school prospect in the country, ahead of another UNC recruit, Rick Porcello, now in his second year with the Tigers. Overall, he was 22-7 with a 3.73 ERA in 54 games, including 43 starts, in his three years with the Tar Heels.
