Mets catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud has been cleared to begin weight-bearing rehabilitation, the club announced last night. He will remain in a boot for the next week, though he is set to begin work at the team's complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

D'Arnaud was acquired from the Blue Jays in the trade of Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. D'Arnaud, who was examined by doctors yesterday at the Hospital for Special Surgery, fractured a toe in April while catching for Triple-A Las Vegas. The club expects him to be playing in minor-league games by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, righthanded reliever Scott Atchison remains out indefinitely with discomfort in his right elbow. He was examined yesterday by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, who agreed with the team doctors' initial diagnosis of bone spurs.

Atchison will resume his throwing program in Port St. Lucie.
