MIAMI -- David Wright was a hero for about 20 minutes Sunday after his two-run homer gave the Mets a brief lead that later was blown up by Bobby Parnell. Still, Wright's return this weekend had to be considered the silver lining of this lost series. He went 6-for-14 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs in his first games since being placed on the disabled list May 18.
"It's tough to sit here and pat yourself on the back when you just lost two out of three," Wright said. "I think what drives you a lot is that fear of failing, of not being able to get that big hit. Hopefully, I can continue to progress."
Wright was forced to rest for more than a month as he gave the stress fracture in his back time to heal. He played only six rehab games for Class A St. Lucie, but that apparently was enough.
As for the most encouraging part about the weekend?
"I played," Wright said.
Parnell's learning curve
Maybe Parnell is not ready to take the training wheels off in his quest to become the Mets' future closer. Parnell, who regularly throws 100- mph fastballs, got beat on two sliders during the eighth inning. Logan Morrison hit one 420 feet to tie the score and John Buck delivered the winning run with a double. "There's no question he's got to bounce back from this," Terry Collins said. "He's very upset and mad at himself. But he's got to pick up the pieces and get ready for tomorrow."
So Bobby, think you can do that?
"I'll let you know tomorrow," Parnell said.
